The Professor, Shane, and Shelly were on their way to adventures in the flying bus! The Professor was hoping to find God! He knew a lot about God but did not know God personally. This adventure was the Professor’s Quest for God!
The Professor wrote on the wall of the flying bus the things that he has learned. So far, the Professor has learned:
- The beauty of nature points people to God. Nature so is awesome it just could not happen by chance, God created it.
- God has a plan for everything and everyone. God has a time for everything in His plan.
The Professor, Shane and Shelly were in the flying bus in the farmer’s field, and it was time to leave for another adventure. The Professor started the motors and turned on the big propeller on the roof of the flying bus. Dust filled the air and the farmer got blown over and did three summersaults before she grabbed onto a fence post! The Professor said, “Ooops!” Once they were up in the air above the dust, Shelly asked, “Which way shall we go this time!” The Professor screamed with terror and said, “Ooops! We need to go away!” Shane asked, “What do you mean?” The Professor screamed, “We need to go away from that!” He pointed to some dark storm clouds that were coming toward them! There was a bad storm coming! The Professor, Shane and Shelly quickly pushed the three heavy boxes to the right side of the flying bus and the bus began turning quickly to the right. When the storm was directly behind the flying bus, they pushed the boxes back to the center of the bus and the bus flew straight ahead.
Shane said, “We have got to warn people that a storm is coming!” They flew the flying bus straight ahead of the storm, but very low so that they could warn people on the ground. They flew over a very dry field where there were a lot of people picking tomatoes. The tomatoes were dried up and wrinkled because there had not been any rain for a long time. The Professor leaned out of one of the bus windows and yelled to the people, “Get ready for some rain, there is a storm coming!” The workers in the field just laughed at the Professor and threw dried up tomatoes at him. The tomatoes hit the Professor in right on his ear! The Professor said, “Ooops!” Shane was angry and said, “Why are those people so mean? The Professor was just trying to warn them about the storm! They do not deserve any help or any rain, I hope the rain misses them completely!” The storm was just behind the flying bus, and the Professor looked back and saw the rain coming down on that dry tomato field, and he said, “That is not fair, they do not deserve that rain!”
Just in front of them was a town with a river running through the middle of the town. There was a woman standing beside the river, and pointing at a small kitten that was stranded on a pile of logs in the middle of the river. The woman was screaming, “Someone save my kitten! There is a storm coming, the river will flood and drown my kitten!” The Professor yelled, “I will save your kitten!” The flying bus hovered over the kitten and the Professor tied a long rope to the flying bus and said, “I will climb down the rope and rescue the kitten!” The Professor wiped the sweat off his hands on an old oily rag and began to climb down the rope. There was so much oil on the Professor’s hands that he could not hold onto the rope! He slid all the way down the rope while screaming, “Ooops!” At the very end of the rope, the Professor’s shoestring got tangled around the rope, and the Professor was hanging upside down only held by his shoestring! The Professor was just able to reach the kitten, but just as the Professor was going to pick up the kitten, the kitten caught a big fish out of the river. The fish bit the Professor on the nose and kept hitting the Professor with his tail! The Professor said, “Ooops!” At that moment, the rain began to fall. It was raining so hard that Shane and Shelly could not even see the Professor at the end of the rope! They hoped that the Professor’s shoestring had not broken and that he still had the kitten. Shelly flew the bus over to the shore and the Professor let go of the kitten, the fish did not let go of the Professor’s nose! Just then the Professor’s shoestring broke and the Professor dropped onto the ground. The ground was so slippery from all the rain that the Professor slid down the bank and landed back in the river! The Professor said, “Ooops!”
Later after the storm was over, the woman came to the Professor and thanked him for rescuing her kitten. She said, “God is so kind, He sent you here at just the right time to help me.” The Professor said, “I do not understand this, none of this seems fair. We passed some mean people working in a dry field of tomatoes, we tried to help them by warning them of the storm. They laughed at us and threw tomatoes at me, but God gave them rain even though they did not deserve it. Then we got to this town and saw your kitten on that pile of logs in the river. You are a nice person, and your kitten is sweet and loveable, but that same storm almost drowned your kitten. It just does not seem fair!” The woman answered the Professor and said, “You are confused because you think that some people deserved God’s kindness more than other people. The truth is, all people are sinners and none of us deserve any kindness from God, in fact we all deserve punishment! But God is kind, and He shows His kindness to all people even though none of us deserve it. God gave rain to those workers in the tomato field even though they did not appreciate it, and God also provided you, at just the right time, to rescue my kitten. God shows kindness to all people because God loves all people. None of us deserve God’s kindness, but God is kind to all!”
The Professor thought about what the woman said and he realized that the woman was right, God shows kindness to everyone. No one deserves the kindness of God because all people are sinners. God’s kindness is part of who He is, He loves all people and shows kindness to all.
The Professor said to Shane and Shelly, I learned more about God today, but I know there is still so much more to learn. I know that I have done many things wrong during my life, and I do not deserve anything good from God. But God is kind and has shown me so much kindness during my life, and I do not deserve any of this kindness. I still do not know God the way I want to know Him, but I am going to keep looking! Someday I will have that friendship with God that I want so much!
The Learning Corner:
The Professor learned some very important things in this story:
- All people are sinners, and no one deserves the kindness of God.
- God loves all people and shows kindness to all, even though none of us deserve God’s kindness.
In the Bible in the book of Romans chapter 3 verse 23 it says:
“For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.”
In the Bible in the book of Matthew chapter 5 verse 45 it says:
“For He gives His sunlight to both the evil and the good, and He sends rain on the just and the unjust alike.”
God specializes in being kind, it is part of His nature. Everyday He gives to all people, air to breathe, food, water, shelter, and He keeps our hearts beating and keeps us alive! God showed His greatest kindness and love by sending His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross to pay for our sins!
In the Bible in the book of John chapter 3 verse 16 it says:
“For this is how God loved the world: He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.”
Professor Ooops is learning about God’s kindness to all people, but he still does not understand about God’s greatest act of kindness by sending Jesus to pay for our sins. How about you? Do you believe that Jesus died for your sins on the cross and then rose from the dead? Have you prayed and asked Jesus to forgive your sins? If you have not done this, please do this today!
