The Professor, Shane, and Shelly were on their way to adventures in the flying bus! The Professor was hoping to find God! He knew a lot about God but did not know God personally. This adventure is the Professor’s Quest for God!
The Professor wrote on the wall of the flying bus the things that he has learned. So far, the Professor has learned:
- The beauty of nature points people to God. Nature so is awesome it just could not happen by chance, God created it.
- God has a plan for everything and everyone. God has a time for everything in His plan.
- God is kind. He shows His kindness to all people. No one deserves God’s kindness because we are all sinners. God’s greatest kindness was sending His Son Jesus to die on the cross to pay for our sins.
- God is just. Every sin must be punished. Jesus died on the cross and rose from the dead to pay for all the sins ever committed. We must choose to accept Jesus’ payment for our sins or pay for our sins ourselves by being punished in the lake of fire forever.
The Professor had gotten the flying bus ready to leave the aircraft carrier when it happened…a flock of seagulls landed on the aircraft carrier. Mac told Shelly, “Those seagulls are looking for food, get some food from the cook and feed them.” Shelly ran to the cook and he gave her a pile of leftover pancakes from breakfast, some of them were sticky with syrup. Shelly threw the pancakes up in the air to the seagulls, but a gust of wind blew the pancakes onto the Professor and they stuck to his hair! The Professor said, “Ooops!” The seagulls landed on the Professor’s head and began snatching pancakes from his hair! The Professor said, “Oww!” The Professor screamed, “These birds are going to pull out all my hair! Help me!” The sailors, Shane and Shelly were laughing so hard that they could not help the Professor! After a few minutes, the seagulls had eaten all the bread, but the Professor’s hair was still very sticky because of all the syrup.
Shane helped the Professor start the flying bus and soon they were flying back to the shore. Shelly was looking at all the things that were piled in the back of the flying bus, she found something that was covered by a big cloth. She pulled the cloth off and underneath was the bicycle/times machine! She yelled, “Professor, why is the bicycle/time machine back here?” The Professor answered, “I thought that we might need to have a bicycle at some time, so I brought it along. If we use it, we will have to be careful not to shift it into high gear!” Then Shelly saw something else, she asked, “Professor why is there an 80-pound bag of bird seed back here and this little bird feeder?” The Professor answered, “I thought it might be fun to hang a bird feeder from the flying bus, but I have not had time to hang it up yet.” Shane said, “It would be so cool to see birds up close, when we get to shore let’s land and hang up the bird feeder so we can enjoy the birds!” That was a great idea, so that is what they decided to do.
When they got to shore Shelly said, “There are some woods over there, we can land beside the woods and set up the bird feeder. There will be many birds from the woods that will come to eat the bird seed.” So, the Professor carefully landed the flying bus next to the woods and shut off the propellers and the motors. Shane got a screwdriver and a screw and hung up the bird feeder. The Professor picked up the 80-pound bag of bird seed and lifted it above his head carefully because it was so heavy. The Professor planned to pour some of the birdseed into the bird feeder, but then it happened! The bag slipped in the Professor’s hands and all 80 pounds of the bird seed fell onto the Professor! Some of the bird seed stuck to the Professor’s sticky hair and the rest of the bird seed fell into the Professor’s clothes! The Professor said, “Ooops!” The Professor looked like the scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz, his hair and his clothes were filled up with bird seed!
Suddenly there was a loud noise of many birds chirping and singing! A huge flock of sparrows came flying out of the forest and they were all hungry! They swirled around the Professor and landed on him and began pecking at the birdseed! The Professor said, “Ooops!” Shane yelled, “Professor, you must have hundreds of sparrows on you! There are so many sparrows that I cannot count them all!”
After a few minutes most of the birdseed (and some of the Professor’s hair) had been taken off the Professor’s head! Then the birds went after the birdseed that had fallen into the Professor’s shirt! Sparrows got into the Professor’s shirt and began pecking at the seed and flying around in the shirt! It hurt and it tickled! The Professor began screaming and jumping around trying to get the sparrows out of his shirt! The Professor was making so much noise that Shane and Shelly did not notice that there was someone else laughing at the Professor. After the birds finally got out of the Professor’s shirt, Shelly heard the other person laughing. She turned around and saw a man in a uniform standing at the edge of the forest.
Shane, Shelly, and the Professor ran over to the man, introduced themselves and asked him who he was. The man said, “My name is Chuck, and I am a forest ranger. I spend my life taking care of the forest and watching over the animals and birds that live in the forest. I have never seen to many sparrows in one place, the Professor makes a most unusual bird feeder!” Shane asked, “How can you watch over the whole forest, all the animals and all the birds? That must take a lot of time!” Chuck answered, “I do the best that I can, but the only one who can truly watch over all the forest, all the animals, and all the birds is God. He pays attention to every little detail; He notices everything and takes care of everything!” The Bible says that God notices every time a sparrow falls to the ground, and it also says that God knows the number of hairs on your head!” Shelly laughed and said, “The Professor has less hair on his head now than he did this morning! The seagulls and the sparrows removed a bunch of his hair!”
Chuck said, “Did you know that God loves people more than He loves anything else? God pays attention to all the little details of your life too! Nothing will every happen to you that God does not know about. God loves you and cares for you!”
The Learning Corner:
In today’s story we learned that God cares about even the smallest details in our lives. It is hard to understand how God can take care of the whole universe and still have time to care about the things that worry us every day. The Bible tells us that it is true, God does love us and care about us so much that He cares about even the smallest details!
In the Bible in the book of Matthew chapter 10 verses 29-31 it says:
“What is the price of two sparrows – one copper coin? But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without our Father knowing it. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.”
We can learn several things from these verses.
- God is big enough and great enough to take care of all the details in the whole universe.
- God cares about nature; He keeps track of even the small birds.
- God knows the smallest details of your life; He even knows how many hairs are on your head.
- Even though God loves nature that He created, He loves people more than nature. You are more valuable to God than anything else in nature.
God loves you so much that He sent his Son Jesus to die on the cross to pay for your sins, then He rose from the dead! You can have your sins forgiven and have eternal life with God in heaven by believing in Jesus, deciding that you want to leave your sins behind you and live for God, and praying and asking Jesus to forgive your sins. If you have never done this, please do this today!
