Gus could not believe all the money he had made in one day selling food and duct tape at the vegetable farm!
The next day he bought more food and duct tape and went back to the ocean to sell food to the people that were there. All day Gus dreamed about what he would do with all his money! He dreamed some big dreams! Maybe he would buy more food buses and hire people to run them for him, he might even have the biggest chain of food buses in California! Why be content with just California, maybe he could expand into Washington State and Oregon and have food buses all along the coast of the Pacific Ocean! He would become one of the most famous and important people in the western half of the country!
His new food buses would be so much better than the food bus he had now!
Instead of being a repainted Ugly Little Bus,
his new buses would cool-looking classic buses,
modern coaches,
and maybe even an electric bus!
Gus was dreaming some big dreams, and he could hardly wait to get started!
That night when Gus was reading his Bible, in Luke 12:15-21 Jesus told this parable:
Then Jesus said, “Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own.” Then he told them a story: “A rich man had a fertile farm that produced fine crops. He said to himself, ‘What should I do? I don’t have room for all my crops.’ Then he said, ‘I know! I’ll teardown my barns and build bigger ones. Then I’ll have room enough to store all my wheat and other goods. And I’ll sit back and say to myself, “My friend, you have enough stored away for years to come. Now take it easy! Eat, drink, and be merry!”’ But God said to him, ‘You fool! Your will die this very night. Then who will get everything you worked for?’ Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God.”
Gus was shocked! He had been acting like a fool. He had become greedy with the money that God had provided to him! Instead of praying and asking God how he should use the money, he had only been thinking about getting rich and becoming a famous and important person!
Gus did not know what God wanted him to do with all that money, so he decided to pray about it and put the money in the bank until God showed him how he should use the money.
Gus wrote in the Gus-Bus Eternal Journal:
I am such a greedy and selfish person, God forgive me! I need to remember that everything I have is a gift f rom God, and I should use everything I have to serve God! God please show me how to use this money to serve you!
