The bright pink tractor was spinning around and around, and smoke and steam surrounded it. A cross came out of the smokestack! When the smoke and steam cleared away, M&M and Gummy Bear saw that they were outside a city that had high walls around it. They knew that this city had to be Jerusalem because there was a sign on the city wall that said, ‘This Has To Be Jerusalem’.
The sun was overhead and Gummy Bear said, “It must be noon. Let’s find somewhere to eat!” Crowds of people were going out of the city and hurrying down the road. Gummy Bear said, “Let’s follow all these people, they must be going out to eat. Maybe there is a McDonalds nearby.” So, M&M drove the bright pink tractor down the road following all the people who were going out of Jerusalem.
The road went past the bottom of a hill, and just as they got to the hill it got dark! It did not get dark gradually like it does at night, it got dark instantly like it does when a light switch is turned off! M&M turned on the headlight switch on the tractor, but the headlights did not come on! They were in the dark!
After a few minutes, their eyes got used to the dark, and they could see a little bit. They noticed that all the people had stopped walking and were looking up the hill, so M&M and Gummy Bear got off the bright pink tractor and began to carefully climb that hill! When they got to the top of that hill, they could not believe their eyes! There were three men hanging on crosses, and they were groaning in agony! The man hanging on the middle cross looked the worst, he had been beaten badly and his body was covered with blood from all the beatings. M&M whispered to Gummy Bear, “The man hanging on the middle cross is Jesus.” Gummy Bear whispered, “He does not look like Jesus, how do know that he is Jesus?” M&M answered, “I read about this in the Bible.”
M&M and Gummy Bear watched in silence for a while. Most of the people were quiet too, they were scared by the sudden darkness and were watching and waiting for something to happen. They watched the three men on the crosses struggle for each breath and wondered how much longer this could go on.
Almost three hours later Jesus said in a weak, sorrowful voice, “My God, My God, why have You abandoned me?” Jesus sounded so sad and heartbroken. He sounded as if He would cry and weep, but He had no tears left.
A few minutes later, Jesus whispered, “I am thirsty.” A soldier dipped a sponge in vinegar, put it on the end of his spear and raised it up to Jesus.
After getting some of the vinegar from the sponge, Jesus took a deep breath and yelled, “It is finished!”
Jesus then whispered, “Father, I entrust my spirit into your hands!” Jesus then relaxed and let go of His life.
Right at that moment, there was an earthquake, and the people started running for home! The officer in charge of the soldiers said, “This man truly was the Son of God!”
Gummy Bear said, “This is so sad, and so scary! I cannot stand it anymore, let’s get out of here! Gummy Bear and M&M ran down the hill to the bright pink tractor. They jumped on the tractor, and Gummy Bear pushed the bright red button.
Instantly the bright pink tractor began spinning in circles, smoke and steam surrounded them, an angel came out of the smokestack…
What Gummy Bear, M&M and you can learn from this story:
This story about Jesus dying on the cross is found in the Bible in Matthew 27:32-54 & Mark 15:21-39 & Luke 23:26-49 & John 19:16-37
.
Sin is truly awful! We cannot understand completely how bad sin really is, but God cannot even tolerate looking at sin! When Jesus was on the cross, the sin of the whole world was put on Him. The Father in heaven could not even look at Jesus when He had the sin of the world on Him, so the Father sent darkness at noon to ‘black out’ the scene!
Jesus suffered and paid the price for all the sin; this includes all the sin from ages past, the sin that was in the world at that time, and all the sin that would come up to the present time and until the time that God brings this age to an end!
Jesus endured the pain, suffering, and separation from His Father until all the sin from all time had been paid in full! Then He shouted, “It is finished!” The job was finished! All sin had been paid in full, there was no more that could be done!
Jesus then gave His spirit into the Father’s keeping and dismissed His earthly life!
Your sin has been paid in full, but it is like a gift. A wrapped gift is wonderful and exciting, but if you never open it, you never truly receive that gift.
Jesus paid for your sins on the cross, but you need to come to Him and pray and ask Him to forgive you and accept His great gift into your life. If you have never done this, please do it today!
