Wednesday night all the kids arrived early; they were so excited because this was the night that the Professor was going to cut out their pinewood derby cars. Shane and Shelly came in carrying the Professor’s bandsaw. It was heavy and they were very careful not to drop it. They set the bandsaw on the floor next to the table. All the blocks of wood were arranged carefully and piled on the table.
The Professor told all the kids to stand around him while he gave them instructions. He told the kids that they had to be very careful when they were by the table. There could be no running, pushing, or shoving! The saw was very sharp, and the Professor did not want anyone to get hurt! The Professor told the kids how he, Shane and Shelly had sorted and stacked all the blocks of wood on the table. The kids were impressed! As the Professor was talking, he turned around to point at the table and he tripped over one of the smaller kids! That small kid fell against the next kid and that kids fell against another kid! All the kids ended up on the floor, and the Professor fell onto the table! The table collapsed and all the blocks of wood flew in every direction! The Professor said Ooops!
Shane and Shelly helped all the kids and the Professor to get up off the floor. They set up the table and sorted and stacked the blocks of wood again. Shelly said, “It is not safe to have the kids in here when the Professor is cutting out the cars! We do not want the Professor or anyone else to get hurt! Shane and I will take all the kids into the other room and shut the door while you are using the saw!” That was a good idea and Shane gathered all the kids and took them into the other room while Shelly closed the door.
The Professor set up the bandsaw and began to cut out the blocks of wood. He started with some of the easy ones so he could get used to the bandsaw. The Professor was very careful while he was using the saw! After he got the easy cars cut out, he started cutting out the harder ones! It was very hard work and because the door was closed, the room started to get very hot! The Professor started to sweat more and more! Soon the sweat was dripping off him! Shelly peeked into the room to see how the Professor was doing, and she felt how hot the room was, and saw how sweaty the Professor was!
Shelly had an idea! She ran quickly and got a big fan and took it into the room where the Professor was sawing the last block of wood. Shelly plugged in the fan and turned it on full speed! There were piles of sawdust all around the table where the Professor was cutting out the cars, and the fan blew all that sawdust into the air! The Professor said, “Ooops!” The air was filled with flying sawdust! Shelly could not see anything! She could not see the table, the cars, or even the Professor! Shelly shut off the fan quickly!
The Professor was standing by the table completely covered with sawdust! Because he was so sweaty, the sawdust stuck to him like glue! Shelly grabbed a rag and rushed to the Professor! She said, “I’m so sorry Professor! Let me brush all that saw dust off you!” The Professor said, “No! Do not brush off the sawdust! Leave it on me and send in the kids!”
Shane brought all the kids into the room, and they took one look at the Professor, and they all started laughing! Professor Ooops looked like a sawdust monster! His clothes, hair, skin, and even his eyebrows were completely covered with sawdust! The Professor finally got the kids to quit laughing and he told them to sit down because he had a lesson from the Bible to teach them!
Professor Ooops Lesson from the Bible:
The Professor told the kids about how hot the room had been and how Shelly had tried to help by bringing in a fan. The Professor described how the sawdust had blown all over and covered him completely! The kids laughed and laughed some more!
The Professor told the kids that when a person asks Jesus to forgive their sins and come into their life, their sins are covered just like the Professor was covered with sawdust.
In the Bible in Psalms 32:1-35 it says:
Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord does not count against them and in whose spirit is no deceit. When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night your hand was heavy on me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer. Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.” And you forgave the guilt of my sin.
God can forgive our sins because His Son Jesus gave His life on the cross. His shed blood paid for our sins!
In the Bible in I John 1:7 it says:
But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin.
In the Bible in Romans 4:7 it says:
“Blessed are those whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord will never count against them.”
Just like the sawdust completely covered Professor Ooops, the shed blood of Jesus completely covers the sins of those who believe and ask for His forgiveness!
