The kids were excited because Professor Ooops had promised that if they used their imaginations and made-up stories about their pinewood derby cars, he would use those stories to teach them more about God.
The first story that the Professor read to the group was written by a girl who had made a pinewood derby bus.
“One morning I woke up and decided to have a great adventure with my friends. Since I had my pinewood bus, there would be room for all my friends and me. I sprayed my pinewood bus with magic water which made it get bigger and bigger until the was the size of a real bus!
I wanted my bus to be able to fly, so I got my mom’s blow dryer and sprayed it with magic water. The blow dryer also got huge, and now it worked without being plugged in! I attached the giant blow dryer to the bottom of the bus and turned it on high. The air coming out of the blow dryer made the bus rise into the air. By tilting the blow dryer, I could make the bus go forward and backwards or sideways. My bus could fly!
I flew to each of my friends’ houses and landed in their backyards. They all wanted to go on an adventure in my flying pinewood bus, so they got permission to go, and they all brought food with them. After landing at each of my friend’s houses we were ready to go on our adventure!
As we were leaving town, we saw Professor Ooops walking along the road. We waved to the Professor and yelled, “Hi”. The Professor waved back to us, and lost his balance, fell, rolled down a hill, and landed with a big splash in a pond! The Professor said, “Ooops!”
After we flew out of town, we saw farmers working in their fields. They were all friendly and waved to us. We also saw deer and other wild animals. A flock of birds flew past us, and one of the birds landed on the flying pinewood bus and rode with us for a while.
Soon we saw dark storm clouds ahead of us! There was lightning and thunder and it started to get windy. We did not want to get into that storm, so I tilted the giant blow dryer and turned the bus in a different direction! Soon we had left the storm a long way behind us.
My friends started to get excited and pointed down at the ground! Down below us was the most beautiful valley I had ever imagined! We decided to land in that valley. I turned the giant blow dryer down to low speed, and the pinewood bus gently landed in that valley.
We could not believe what we saw! The whole valley was filled with ice cream shops, and they were all free! My friends and I could hardly wait to try all the different flavors of ice cream! We decided to stay in this valley for a long time!”
Professor Ooops Lesson from the Bible:
The kids could hardly wait to hear the Professor’s Bible lesson from the girl’s story. The Professor opened his Bible and told that kids that the story reminded him of going to heaven. All people who have believed that Jesus is the Son of God who died to pay for our sins and have prayed and asked Jesus to forgive them and given their life to Jesus are on their way to heaven.
In the Bible in John 14:1-3 Jesus says:
“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in Me. There is more than enough room in My Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with Me where I am.”
Believers are all on their way to heaven, and that is going to be so much better than a valley filled with free ice cream shops! We will get to heaven either when we die, or when Jesus returns to take all believers out of this world.
In the Bible in II Corinthians 5:8 it says:
We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.
In the Bible in I Corinthians 15:51-53 it says:
But let me reveal to you a wonderful secret. We will not all die, but we will all be transformed! It will happen in a moment, in the blink of an eye, when the last trumpet is blown. For when the trumpet sounds, those who have died will be raised to live forever. And we who are living will also be transformed. For our dying bodies must be transformed into bodies that will never die; our mortal bodies must be transformed into immortal bodies.
The Professor told the kids that he could hardly wait to get to heaven and have that wonderful adventure that lasts forever. Everyone who has asked Jesus into their life will be on that adventure forever!
