At the next meeting, the Professor was smiling and almost laughing! Two of the kids in the group had written stories about an invisible car. The Professor said he would read one of them this week, and the other one next week.
“There was a mystery! There was no peanut butter for lunch! Everyone was wondering why there was no peanut butter. One of the girls in the group had a great idea! She would become a spy and find out what happened to the peanut butter.
The best way to be a spy was to have an invisible car, so she made some secret car wax that would make her pinewood derby car invisible. The best part was that she would also be invisible when she was in her car!
She got in her car and zoomed off to find the peanut butter! In the forest she saw a suspicious car and decided to follow it. The car went down an old road that was overgrown with vines and bushes. The girl in the invisible car followed the suspicious car down that road. The road was very bumpy, and they had to go slow. Soon they got to an old building that had no windows and the door was locked with a padlock!
The men in the suspicious car got out of their car and unlocked the door and went into the old building. The girl got out of her invisible pinewood derby car and went to the door of the building and peeked inside. She could not believe what she saw! The whole building was filled with jars of peanut butter! The men in the suspicious car had stolen all the peanut butter from all the stores in the area and they had hidden the peanut butter in this old building!
The girl heard the men laughing because now none of the kids had peanut butter for their sandwiches! Then it happened…the men came out of the old building! The girl was not worried because she was invisible, but she had forgotten one important thing. She was not in her invisible pinewood derby car, so she was not invisible! The men could see her!
The girl sounded just like the Professor when she said, “Ooops!” The men grabbed the girl and began dragging her to their car! The girl struggled, but they were too strong for her! Then the girl had an idea! She quit struggling and the men did not hold on to her so tightly. Suddenly she stomped on the men’s feet and broke away from them! She ran as fast as she could and snatched the padlock off the door of the building, and then she jumped into her invisible pinewood derby car!
It looked like she had disappeared! The men were so confused! Suddenly they heard the invisible pinewood derby car zooming down the road back to town! They jumped in their car and followed as fast as they could!
The girl drove to the police station and jumped out of her car. When she got out of her invisible pinewood derby car, the men could see her, and they jumped out of their car and chased her! The girl ran straight into the police station and the men followed her without knowing that it was the police station!
The girl told the police the whole story and gave them the padlock that had been on the old building. The police put the men in jail and then they went to the building and brought back all the peanut butter and there was plenty for everyone!
Professor Ooops Lesson from the Bible:
The Professor told the kids that spy stories are fun because people like to figure out who the ‘bad guy’ is and to fix the problem. There are a lot of problems in this world, and they are more serious than missing peanut butter. This world can be a scary place and there is a ‘bad guy’ behind all the problems. That bad guy is called the devil or Satan.
We do not have to have an invisible car and become a spy to figure out who causes the problems in this world. The Bible is very clear that Satan (the devil) is behind the problems in this world.
In the Bible in John 10:10a Jesus says:
The thief’s (the devil’s) purpose is to steal and kill and destroy.
There is also a ‘good guy’. This good guy is the Jesus, the Son of God! That same verse in the Bible also talks about Jesus!
In the Bible in John 10:10b Jesus says:
My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.
Believers do not have to worry or be afraid of the devil, because Jesus has unlimited power, and the devil will not win!
In the Bible in I John 4:4 it says:
You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you (Jesus) is greater than the one (the devil) who is in the world.
Those that have Jesus living in their heart, can be confident and live life without worrying about the future. Jesus has the future, and He loves us!
