Wednesday night when the kids came to Church, the Professor announced that they were going to have tests that night. The kids all groaned because they thought that they were going to have a written test like the ones they have in school, and they did not like tests! The Professor explained that this was a different kind of test. They were going to test the cars and test the racetrack. Each of the kids would get to test their pinewood derby car on the track. They would go one at a time, so no one would find out which car was faster. The Professor wanted to make sure that all the cars ran down the track with no problems. It sounded like a great idea, and the kids all wanted to go first!
The Professor chose one of the kids to go first, and he brought his car to the top of the track. The car went down the track very fast! The boy screamed with delight and yelled for everyone to watch his car! The car got to the end of the track and kept going! That’s right, it went off the end of the track and went across the room! Two of the kids were playing tag, and they did not see the car coming! One of those kids accidentally stepped on the speeding car and the wheels broke off! The Professor said, “Ooops!”
The second kid brought her car nervously to the top of the track. She yelled for everyone to get out of the way! Her car also went speeding down the track and the girl screamed with great enthusiasm! The car went off the end of the track and went speeding across the floor. Everyone stayed out of the way, and the car crashed into the wall on the other side of the room! A chunk of wood broke off the front of the car, and one of the wheels was bent! The girl burst into tears, and the Professor said, “Ooops!”
The Professor had a great idea! He got a board and nailed it across the end of the track so that the cars could not go off the end of the track anymore! The Professor thought that he had solved the problem.
The next kid sent his car down the track. It crashed into the board at the end of the track with a loud bang! The noise sounded awesome, but a piece of wood had broken off the front of that car! The Professor said, “Ooops!”
The next girl sent her car down the track, and it hit the board at the end! There was an even louder noise, and the car flipped into the air, went over the board, and landed on the floor on the other side of the board! Three wheels broke off and went rolling across the floor! The Professor said, “Ooops!”
Now Shelly had an idea. She suggested that they get a pillow and lay it across the end of the track. The pillow would stop the cars, but it would not hurt them. This was a great idea! Shane found a pillow, and he held it across the end of the track. It worked great! No more cars broke!
However, Shane and Shelley had quite a few cars that needed to be fixed. So, they got out the drill, the glue and some clamps, and they began fixing cars.
Professor Ooops Lesson from the Bible:
While Shane and Shelly were fixing the cars, the Professor had all the kids sit down so that he could teach them some more about God from the Bible.
The Professor told the kids that Shane and Shelly would fix the broken pinewood derby cars so that they would be like new again. God does the same thing for people! When a person believes in Jesus, prays and asks Jesus to forgive their sins and come into their life, that person becomes brand new!
In the Bible in II Corinthians 5:17 it says:
This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!
This new life from God is not something that gets old and wears out! Even though all of us still struggle with sin, God’s mercy to us is also new every morning, and He brings new joy into our life!
In the Bible in Lamentations 3:22-23 it says:
The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is His faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning.
In the Bible in Psalms 30:4-5 it says:
Sing to the Lord, all you Godly ones! Praise His holy name. For His anger lasts only a moment, but His favor lasts a lifetime! Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning.
God loves us! If you have asked Jesus to forgive you and come into your life, then you are a child of God, and He has made you into a new person, and is continually making new things in your life! Rejoice! God is not done with you yet! The best is yet to come! When this life is over and the believer is with God in heaven, then we will see completely how God has made us new!
In the Bible in I John 3:2 it says:
Dear friends, we are already God’s children, but He has not yet shown us what we will be like when Christ appears. But we do know that we will be like Him, for we will see Him as He really is.
