2. Professor Ooops and the Time Machine

It looked like it was true, the time machine that Professor Ooops had made didn’t seem to work, it was just another ‘ooops’. Shelly had turned the hand crank that was supposed to make the time machine work, and … nothing had happened. Just another ooops!

Professor Ooops said to Shane and Shelly, “I had better get you home before it gets dark. I’ll give you a ride on my bicycle, it has three seats, so it is at least good for giving you a ride. The three of them got on the bicycle and all together they began to pedal. They began to pick up speed and the Professor shifted into high gear, then it happened…The bicycle began bouncing like a toad in a washing machine! There was a blinding flash of light and a loud noise like a turtle singing!

Suddenly they were riding down a steep hill right towards a field that was covered with thousands of tents. The bicycle hit a dip in the ground and the Professor, Shane and Shelly went flying through the air and landed right on top of a tent! The tent collapsed and the men who were inside came rushing out! They had swords in their hands and didn’t look too happy! The Professor yelled, “Hey look at that purple duck!” Of course the men turned around and began to look for a purple duck. The Professor grabbed the hands of Shane and Shelly and began to run away from that campground. They made it to the edge of the field where there were some bushes growing. Shane yelled, “Get behind the buses, we will be safe there!”

They ran around behind the bushes, but they were far from safe. Right in front of them were 1 full-grown man and 4 young men, but these men were not ordinary men at all, they were huge! The full-grown man was the biggest and strongest of them all, he stood up and said, “It’s time to have some fun!” Shane and Shelly couldn’t believe how tall he was, this giant was over 9 feet tall! The Professor thought that the giant was going to kill them, so he bravely jumped in front of Shane and Shelly to protect them! Of course the Professor didn’t see the tree root sticking up from the ground, he tripped on it, fell to the ground, and began rolling down the hill, yelling Oooooooops! Fortunately the giants didn’t notice the Professor or the children. The biggest and strongest giant began walking down the other side of the hill and the other four younger giants followed behind him to see what would happen.

In the distance Shane and Shelly could see a small-looking person coming toward the giant. The giant began to laugh at the little person, but then he got mad! The giant yelled, “Are you the best fighter that your army has? Who do you think you are? I am going to kill you and squash you like a mosquito!”

Shane and Shelly wanted to see this better, so they carefully and quietly began to run closer. Suddenly they heard a noise that sounded like some kind of creature running through the woods, and screeching like a baboon! It was the Professor and he yelled, “Shane! Shelly! Get away from there! It’s not safe!” Shane and Shelly didn’t even hear what he said, they were focused on the giant and the little person, and they didn’t stop running until they were very close behind the giant. Suddenly they realized that the small-looking person was not even grown up, he was just a young teenager! The young teenager yelled to the giant, “You thing you are so great because you are big! But I come against you in the name of God! I am going to kill you and turn you into bird food!” The teenage boy started running towards the giant, and started twirling a cloth sling above his head. The giant was laughing and pointing at the boy when suddenly the boy let go of one side of the sling and a stone went flying toward the giant! The stone hit the giant in the forehead and broke into his skull. Shane yelled to the boy, “Good shot! You got him!” The giant tottered on his feet for a few seconds and then began to fall. Shane yelled “Timber!” Shelly screamed, “Oh no! He’s falling toward the professor!” Sure enough the giant was falling right towards Professor Ooops, it looked for certain like he was going to be crushed to death by a falling giant! The Professor was so scared that he couldn’t move! He just stood there and said, “Ooops!” Shelly ran to the Professor, and pushed him out of the way just as the giant crashed to the ground!

The Professor, Shane and Shelly heard yelling and screaming behind them. They turned and looked, and saw that the other four giants and all the soldiers in the camp looked terrified! There were trying to run away and were fighting and killing each other and pointing across the valley! From across the valley came another army of soldiers, and they weren’t scared a bit. They started chasing the scared army away, killing them as they went. The Professor said, “Let’s get out of here before we get killed!” They ran to the bicycle built for three, Shelly turned the hand crank frantically and then all three of them jumped onto the bike and began to pedal up the hill and… nothing happened!

Application:

Review the story of David & Goliath found in the Bible in the book of:

1st Samuel chapter 17.

Remember: the stories in the Bible are true, I have added the parts about Professor Ooops, Shane & Shelly (they are not true, but made up)

Can you answer these questions?

  • Why wasn’t David afraid of Goliath? (The answer: Because he had God’s help)
  • What are some of the things you are afraid of?
  • What are some of the giants (big scary things) in your life?

Read these verses from the Bible:

Deuteronomy 31:6 “So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord you God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.”

Matthew 28:20b (the second part of the verse) “And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

To my readers: God does not want you to live your life in fear. God has made some wonderful promises in the Bible that He will always be with us and help us in times of trouble. But to make these wonderful promises yours, you have to ask Jesus the Son of God to come into your life. Talk to God right now (prayer is just talking to God), tell God that you believe in Him and in His Son Jesus, admit that you have done wrong in your life, ask forgiveness, and ask Jesus to come into your life.

If you have made this decision, please let me know by sending a comment.
