The Professor, Shane, and Shelly were on their way to adventures in the flying bus! The Professor was hoping to find God! He knew a lot about God but did not know God personally. This adventure was the Professor’s Quest for God!
The flying bus was going steadily through the air. Shane and Shelly had moved the boxes of supplies around until the bus was balanced and level. The air was calm, the sun was shining, and it was a great day to be flying! Shelly asked the Professor, “Where are we going?” The Professor answered, “I have never been out west, why don’t we go that way?” Shane asked, “Which way is west?” The Professor answered, “I put a compass in the flying bus so that we will always know what way we are going?” The Professor showed Shane and Shelly the deluxe built-in compass at the front of the bus. The Professor explained, “The needle on the compass always points north, so that we can figure out which way we are going.” Shelly looked closely at the compass and said, “Professor, I think we have a problem. This compass does not have a needle, it is useless!” The Professor said, “Ooops!”
Jus then Shane noticed some mountains in the distance, they were so far away that they only looked like little hills, but there was snow on the top of some of them, so they had to be mountains. Shane said, “Look at those mountains! There are mountains in the west, so that direction must be west! Let’s turn the bus and go that way!” The Professor sat down in the driver’s seat and turned the steering wheel to the left and … nothing happened! The Professor said “Ooops!” Shane said, “Professor, the steering wheel turns the front wheels of the bus. If the bus were on the ground that would turn us but is does not help us at all when the bus is flying! We cannot turn the bus!” The Professor said, “Ooops!”
Shelly had an idea, she said, “Remember when we started to fly? We almost crashed because there was too much weight in the front of the bus, and that caused the front end of the bus to point down. What if we all went on the left side of the bus? Would the bus lean to the left and then turn to the left!” Shane answered, “That is a great idea! Let’s give it a try!” The Professor, Shane and Shelly all ran to the left side of the bus, and the bus leaned a little bit to the left. Slowly the bus began to turn to the left, when the flying bus was facing the mountains, all of them went back to the middle and the bus became level and quit turning! Shelly yelled, “It worked! We can turn the bus by all going to one side or the other!” Shane said, “Yes it did work, but it took a long time to make that turn. What if we need to turn faster?” The Professor said, “We just need more weight on that side of the bus to make it turn faster.” The Professor then pushed a heavy box of food to the left side of the bus. Shane and Shelly also each pushed a heavy box to the left side of the bus. The bus leaned to the left more than before and began to turn much faster. Then it happened! Because the bus was leaning so much to the left, other boxes began to slide to the left side of the bus! The bus leaned to the left much more and began turning around and around in circles! The Professor said, “Ooops!” Shane yelled, “We have to push some of the boxes back to the right side of the bus!” The Professor immediately pushed his heavy box all the way to the right side of the bus and then started back to get another box. The heavy box slid back to the left side of the bus and knocked the Professor down! The Professor said, “Ooops!” Shelly yelled to Shane, “Push your heavy box to the right side of the bus and then hold it there!” Shane pushed his heavy box to the right side of the bus and held it in place while Shelly pushed her heavy box to the right side and held it. The Professor got out from under his box and pushed it to the right side of the bus. The bus became level and quit turning, and best of all, it was pointed toward the mountains again!
Shelly said, “We need to get all the rest if the boxes arranged evenly on both sides of the bus and tie them in place so that they cannot move. We will keep our three heavy boxes in the center of the bus and move them to one side or the other when we need to turn! That was a great idea, so they did it!
With no further mishaps they eventually got to the mountains! The view from the flying bus was breathtaking, the snow on the mountains was sparkling and the lower slopes were covered by green bushes and plants. There were birds of many kinds flying in the air (and landing on the flying bus), and down below they could see deer and even a moose! The Professor said, “I love the beauty of this place, why don’t we land on the top of that mountain ahead?” So, the Professor turned off the front propeller and the flying bus drifted to a stop right above that mountain, and then he slowed down the top propeller and the flying bus gently landed on top of the mountain. The beauty was incredible, the snow was an unbroken sheet of white (except for the spot where the wheels of the flying bus had sunk into the snow), and the air was still and peaceful. After the bus motors were turned off there were no noises at all, except for the birds. The Professor, Shane and Shelly got some food to eat and then just sat and watched the most beautiful sunset they had ever seen. They all went to sleep that night in the flying bus and had the most peaceful and restful sleep that they had ever had.
The next morning, they woke up just in time to watch the sunrise. The top of the mountain was covered in sunlight first, while the land below them was still kind of dark. The Professor wanted to get a good picture of the sunlight glistening on the snow, so he climbed onto the hood of the front bus…then it happened!
The Professor’s weight on the hood of the bus caused to the whole flying bus house to go out of balance! The flying bus started to slide down the mountain! Shelly yelled, “The wheels are on the ground, so the steering wheel should work!” Shane and Shelly ran to the driver’s seat and both grabbed the steering wheel. They were approaching some trees, so there was no time to lose! Shane yelled, “Left” and they turned the wheel all the way to the left and just missed the first tree. Then they had to go right, then right again, and then left again. The Professor grabbed the windshield wipers and held on as tight as he could! Just when the Professor thought things could not get any worse, it happened… Shane’s elbow accidentally bumped the switch that turned on the windshield wipers! The windshield wipers began to go back and forth on high speed! The Professor was flung from side-to-side yelling, “Ooops” with every beat of the wipers! Shane and Shelly managed to miss all the trees and rocks! They guided the bus through the snow and then through the forest below the snowline, finally the bus coasted to a stop at the bottom of the mountain.
Shelly switched off the windshield wipers and they stopped so suddenly that the Professor lost his grip and went sailing through the air! Fortunately, there was a large pond next to the flying bus, unfortunately there was a beaver swimming across the pond. The Professor landed on top of the beaver! The beaver got mad snapped at the Professor with his large front teeth! The Professor said, “Ooops!” and began to swim to shore as fast as he could! The beaver chased the Professor, snapping his teeth the whole time! The Professor barely made it to shore ahead of the beaver. The Professor ran to the flying bus, jumped in, and slammed the door! The beaver climbed up on the hood and sat there, looking through the windshield and snapping his teeth at the Professor!
After they rested from all the excitement, the Professor said to Shane and Shelly, “The beauty of nature that we have seen on this mountain is awesome, I am more convinced that none of this happened by chance. God made all this beauty! But I still don’t know God personally!” Shelly answered, “You have learned that the beauty of nature points us toward God.” The Professor said, “I am so glad that we had this mountaintop experience! I have learned more about God, but I see that there is still more to learn. Let’s take off and have more adventures in my quest to find God!”
The Learning Corner:
Nature is truly awesome and beautiful. Many people make a huge mistake, they worship nature and ignore God who made nature. Nature should not be worshipped; it was made by God and the purpose of nature is to help people to realize there is a God.
In the Bible in the book of Psalms chapter 19 verses 1-4 it says,
“The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display His craftsmanship. Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make Him known. They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard. Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world.”
In the Bible in the book of Romans chapter 1 verse 19-20 it says,
“They know the truth about God because He has made it obvious to them. For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see His invisible qualities – His eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.
Taking good care of this world that God has made is very important, but it is not the most important thing. The most important thing is to know God, who made nature! You can begin your friendship with God by believing in His Son Jesus. Jesus became man, as well as being God, and lived on this earth and allowed Himself to be killed to pay for your sins. Three days later Jesus rose from the dead, and He lives forever. Jesus paid for your sins with his death, but you must ask Him for forgiveness of your sins. If you want to leave your life of sin and live for Jesus, pray today and ask Jesus to forgive your sins.
