3. Thanksgiving Feast – Hot Dogs

The next week when the Kid’s Club met at Church, the Leader told them that the next thing on their Thanksgiving Feast menu was hot dogs.  Some of the kids were very excited to hear that hot dogs were on the menu, and some of the kids groaned and asked, “Why do we always have hot dogs when the Kid’s Club has a meal?  Why don’t we have steak sometimes?”

The Leader explained that steak was very expensive, and the Church did not have enough money to buy steaks for everyone in the Kid’s Club.  One of the kids asked, “Why are hot dogs cheaper?  They are made from meat too.  I do not understand why there is such a big price difference!”  The Leader explained that steaks were cut from the best portions of the meat.  That is why they are so expensive.  When meat is cut up, the butcher looks at the large piece of meat where there is not much fat and cuts out the steaks and other good cuts of meat.  The scraps of meat that are left over are combined with other scraps of meat, ground up, and made into hot dogs.

Also, hot dogs might not be made from just one kind of meat.  A hot dog might contain beef, pork, chicken, and even turkey!  A hot dog is truly a mixture of meat scraps and that are combined and end up tasting good!

The Leader said, “I am going to tell you a secret!  When God chooses people to serve Him and do great things for Him, He does not look for the smartest or the most popular people!  When God is going to do a great work; He chooses the plain ordinary people to do the job.  God also often uses a mixture of common ordinary people to serve Him.  Just like a hot dog is made of a mixture of ordinary meat scraps, and ends up tasting good, when God chooses to use a mixture of ordinary people, it ends up being something very special.”

In the Bible in I Corinthians 1:26-29 it says:

Remember, dear brothers and sisters, that few of you were wise in the world’s eyes or powerful or wealthy when God called you.  Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise.  And He chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful.  God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important.  As a result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God.

If you think that you are nobody special…rejoice!  God loves to use people just like you to accomplish great things for His kingdom!  If God is using you in a great way, do not brag about it because everything we have, and all our abilities come from God Himself!  Without Him we can do nothing that will last for eternity!

Just like scraps of different kinds of meat are brought together to make a great hotdog, God brings together people from different backgrounds who cannot accomplish much by themselves, and makes something beautiful come from those ‘unimportant’ people.
