13. Professor Ooops and the Flying Bus – The Quest For God

The Professor, Shane, and Shelly were on their way to adventures in the flying bus!  The Professor was hoping to find God!  He knew a lot about God but did not know God personally.  This adventure is the Professor’s Quest for God!

The Professor wrote on the wall of the flying bus the things that he has learned.  So far, the Professor has learned:

  1. The beauty of nature points people to God.  Nature so is awesome it just could not happen by chance, God created it.
  2. God has a plan for everything and everyone.  God has a time for everything in His plan.
  3. God is kind.  He shows His kindness to all people.  No one deserves God’s kindness because we are all sinners.  God’s greatest kindness was sending His Son Jesus to die on the cross to pay for our sins.
  4. God is just.  Every sin must be punished.  Jesus died on the cross and rose from the dead to pay for all the sins ever committed.  We must choose to accept Jesus’ payment for our sins or pay for our sins ourselves by being punished in the lake of fire forever.
  5. God pays attention to every detail.  He knows every detail of your life and He loves and cares for you.
  6. God is faithful all the time.  He will never leave you or give up on you.  Even the best people are unfaithful some of the time.
  7. God’s wisdom is not like the wisdom of the world.  The world says, ‘Put yourself first, go after fame, fortune, and things.’  God’s wisdom says, ‘Fear (greatly respect) God first, and your attitude and thoughts should be about helping others’.
  8. God has the greatest power in the whole universe.  He made the universe and everything in it, and God’s power keeps the whole universe going.  But God does not use His great power to crush us, He speaks gently to us with love.
  9. Having great knowledge about God and about the Bible does not impress God.  If our knowledge does not lead us into a relationship with God, then it will make us proud.
  10. Being around God’s people and enjoying fellowship does not give you a relationship with God.
  11. God made the way for us to have a relationship with Him.  In the Bible in the book of Romans chapter 5 verse 8 it says: “But God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.”  This is the secret to having a friendship with God, believe in Jesus and accept the forgiveness for our sins (Jesus paid for our sins on the cross.

All night long the Professor, Shane and Shelly were celebrating because the Professor had finally found God!  The bicycle/time machine had taken them and the flying bus back in time to the very day that Jesus died on the cross to pay for the sins of the world.  While Jesus was on the cross, He had looked straight into the Professor’s eyes and the Professor had never seen such a look of love and compassion as Jesus had for him!  Right there in front of the cross, the Professor got down onto his knees and asked Jesus to forgive his sins and come into his life!  Right at that moment the Professor knew that he had found God and that God was now his friend because Jesus had died to pay the penalty for sins.

Shane said, “We should try to get back to our own time, there is no reason to stay here, the Professor has found God!”  The Professor answered, “We cannot leave yet!  You have told me so often that Jesus died on the cross for our sins, but he also rose from the dead Sunday morning!  I want to stay here and see that happen!”  So, it was decided that they would stay until Sunday and hope that they could see Jesus after He rose from the dead.  Shelly said, “The big question is how do we find the tomb where they put Jesus?  We did not stay at the cross long enough to see where they took His body.  I know that the tomb is somewhere close to the cross, but where exactly is it?”  Shane said, “You are right, that tomb could be anywhere in this hilly area, and it is not safe to go and look for it.  I have noticed that there are many soldiers in this area and all the friends of Jesus seem to be hiding.”  There was nothing that they could do, so they waited, and waited, and waited.  All day Saturday they waited in the flying bus and could not come up with any idea about how to find the tomb of Jesus.  Just before sundown the Professor said, “I need to get some fresh air!  I have been in this bus all day long and I feel like I should be doing something.  I will be careful!”  As the Professor said this, he stepped off the bus, tripped over a rock and rolled all the way down the hill yelling, “Ooops!”  Shane just shook his head and said, “Some things just never change!”

Professor Ooops was walking along a path when suddenly he heard something!  It was the sound of soldiers marching, and they were coming towards him and sounded like they were just around the curve the in the path!  The Professor said, “Ooops!” and then quickly hid behind a tree beside the path.  As the soldiers were marching past the tree, the Professor heard one of them complain about having to stay up all night guarding a tomb.  The Professor realized that these soldiers were on their way to guard Jesus’ tomb, so very quietly he followed the soldiers.  The soldiers followed the path down a hill, the Professor stayed at the top of the hill and peeked down.  The soldiers had stopped and were standing at the bottom of the hill like they were guarding the hill.  Then the Professor looked straight down and saw a huge stone rolled against the hill right below him.  The Professor was right over the tomb of Jesus!  He could not wait to get back to the flying bus and tell Shane and Shelly that he had found the tomb!  Then it happened…the Professor’s foot slipped, and he knocked two stones down the hill!  The first stone, which was small, hit the helmet of one of the soldiers.  The soldier looked up just as the second stone, which was much bigger, knocked him down.  That soldier fell against the other soldiers and they all fell down!  The Professor said, “Ooops!”  The solders yelled, “Catch that man, kill him!”  The soldiers started to run after the Professor, but their commander yelled, “Come back here!  If we leave our post, we will all be killed!”  The soldiers all went back and guarded the tomb, and the Professor ran back to the flying bus.

The next morning the Professor, Shane, and Shelly were hidden above the tomb just before the sun rose.  Suddenly there was an earthquake and an angel suddenly appeared and grabbed that huge stone and moved it away from the entrance of the tomb!  The soldiers took one look at that angel and they all fainted!  The Professor said, “Ooops!”

Just then some women, who were friends of Jesus, arrived at the tomb.  The angel told them to look in the tomb where Jesus had been, he was not there anymore, He had risen from the dead!

A little later Peter and John came running to the tomb and saw that it was empty!  Jesus had risen from the dead!  Shortly after that Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and was standing there crying.  A man came up to her and started talking to her.  Shelly got all excited and said, “That is Jesus!  He has risen from the dead!”  Jesus and Mary Magdalene finished talking and left.  Shane said, “Let’s follow them and see what happens next!”  They ran down the hill started to follow Jesus, but the Professor tripped on a stone and fell down!  The Professor said, “Ooops!”  Shelly said, “Professor what is that package that is lying beside the stone!  Shane added, “There is a note under the package, and it is addressed to the Professor Ooops!”

The Professor picked up the note and read it.  It said, “Dear Professor Ooops:  Welcome to my family!  You are now my child!  In the package you will find a needle for the compass in your flying bus.  Now your compass will point you in the right direction in all your adventures, just like I will point you in the right direction in life!  From Jesus.”

Just then the soldiers started to wake up!  One of them said, “Hey look!  There is that guy that threw rocks at us last night!  Let’s kill them!”  The Professor, Shane, and Shelly ran as fast as they could back to the flying bus.  The bicycle/time machine was tied in front of the bus and was all ready to go!  The Professor and Shelly jumped onto the bicycle/time machine and Shane kicked the log away from the front tire!  The flying bus began to slowly roll down the hill, Shane jumped on the bicycle/time machine and they began to pedal as fast as they could!  The flying bus began to roll faster and just then the soldiers came running around the corner.  The soldiers screamed when they saw a bicycle and a flying bus rolling down the hill and about to run them over!  The Professor shifted the bicycle/time machine into high gear.  Then it happened…

The bicycle began bouncing like a toad in a washing machine!  There was a blinding flash of light and a loud noise like a turtle singing!  Suddenly and the soldiers disappeared…

They were rolling across a clearing and the flying bus came to a gentle stop!  The Professor looked around and said, “I’m home!  The flying bus is parked exactly where it was before we started on our quest to find God!  It is good to be home!  I can’t wait to start my new life following Jesus!”

The Learning Corner:

Asking Jesus to forgive your sins and come into your life is not the end of the story, it is just the beginning of the story!

God showed his love for us by sending Jesus to die on the cross to pay for our sins.  God continues to show His love by continuing to care for us every day and He is preparing a place for us in heaven and preparing us for heaven.

In the Bible in the book of John chapter 14 verse 3 Jesus says:

And if I go and prepare a place for you.  I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”

God shows His love for us each and every day.  We show our love for God by learning all we can about how to live our life for God, and then obeying God and living for Him.  It is an adventure that will last your entire life!

In the Bible in the book of 2 Peter in chapter 3 verse 18 it says:

“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  To Him be glory both now and forever!  Amen.”
