Kris woke up in their hotel room and could not believe how stiff and sore he was, then he remembered how he had fallen off his horse and had almost been trampled by the herd of wild horses! Kris groaned and decided to stay in bed for a while.
A few hours later Kell heard a strange buzzing noise on the balcony outside their room. She opened the sliding door, looked out on the balcony, and saw a strange thing! A small drone was hovering above their balcony! As Kell watched, the drone came down and dropped a piece of paper on the balcony table, then the drone flew away.
Kell picked up the note and read, “Drive to Washington DC. You are scheduled to take a tour of the city tomorrow at 7:30…” Kell was so excited that she did not finish reading the note! She shoved the note into her bag and then she pulled Kris out of bed and told him to take a long hot shower and then they were going to drive to Washington DC!
That night they had to go to bed early because they wanted to be on time for their tour in the morning!
The next morning, they arrived for their tour at 7:15 because they wanted to make sure that they did not miss the tour. There were no other people waiting for the tour, Kris and Kell thought that they were incredibly lucky, it looked like they were going to get a tour of Washington DC all by themselves! At 7:30 there were still no other people waiting for the tour, but the trolley bus was not there either or any other people that worked for the tour company. Kris and Kell were wondering what was going on, but there was nothing to do but keep waiting.
They waited and waited, and still no one showed up. Finally, a little before 9:00 someone opened the office of the tour company. By this time, Kell was very mad! She went to the man in charge and said, “We had reservations for the 7:30 tour this morning! Why was that tour cancelled? We were here on time and were ready to go!”
The man in charge said, “There is no tour at 7:30 in the morning!” Kell answered, “We got a note that said we had a reservation at 7:30 this morning! I have the note right here in my bag!” Kell dug the note out of her bag and handed it to the man. The man read the note and then said, “I am afraid that you misunderstood the note. The note says that you have a reservation for the ‘Monuments by Moonlight Tour’ at 7:30 pm this evening! I am sorry for the misunderstanding. We will see you this evening.”
Kell was so embarrassed! She remembered now that she had not taken the time to read the note carefully. She apologized to the man for being mad at him and told him that she was looking forward to the tour in the evening.
Kris and Kell spent the day at the Smithsonian Museums and saw many interesting things. That evening they made sure that they were on time for that 7:30 pm tour. It was such a great tour, they were glad that they had reservations for the evening tour. They got to see the sunset over the city and watch all the lights come on. It was incredibly beautiful!
Their tour lasted 2 ½ hours and they got to see so much! Their trolley bus drove past many places including: The US Capital Building, The Supreme Court Building, The Jefferson Memorial, The Washington Monument, The White House, and many other places. The trolley bus slowed down by each place so that pictures could be taken.
At other places, the trolley bus stopped, and they could get off for a few minutes to explore the monument, these places included: The Lincoln Memorial, The Vietnam Veterans Memorial, The Korean War Veterans Memorial, The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, and the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial. It was so exciting to explore and take pictures at these historic places!

Everything was going great until they got to The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial. There were a few older people on the tour who had actually met Martin Luther King Jr. and remembered the days when he was fighting for racial equality! Kell started talking with these fascinating people and stayed with them the rest of the tour, getting to know them better. Meanwhile Kris was trying to get the best picture of the Martin Luther King Jr. Statue. It was hard to get a good picture because there were so many people in the area. Finally, the people were all out of the way and Kris got the best picture ever of the Martin Luther King Jr. statue!
Kris turned around to get back on the trolley bus and found out where all the people had gone, the bus had left! Kris had missed the bus! Kell was so busy with her new friends that she did not notice that Kris was not on the bus.
At the end of the tour, Kell said goodbye to her new friends and thanked their driver, who had also been their tour guide. Then she noticed that Kris was not there! For a moment Kell panicked! She did not know where Kris was! Then Kell calmed down and realized that she could call Kris and find out what had happened to him. She took out her phone and found that the battery was dead! Kell did not know what to do, she did not want to call the police because Kris was probably not lost too badly, and besides she could not call the police because her phone was dead. So, she decided to go back to the hotel and charge her phone and then try to call Kris.
When Kell got to their hotel room, there was Kris! He had tried to call Kell and tell her that he had missed the bus, but she did not answer her phone, so he called an Uber ride and went back to their hotel. Now that Kris and Kell were together again, they realized that they could laugh about this crazy adventure because everything had turned out all right!
It was getting late and they were both tired, so they agreed to talk about their Washington DC adventure the next morning while they had breakfast.
Lesson Learned about God
The next morning Kris got up early, went downstairs and got them breakfast and took it back up to the room, and served Kell ‘breakfast in bed’.
While they were eating, they talked about all the monuments that they had seen, and realized that they both had different ‘favorite monuments’ that they had visited.
Kris said, “The thing that I think is so cool is that the city of Washington DC is so focused on remembering and honoring the great people who have made great changes and sacrifices in our country. We would not have such a great country with so much freedom if these people, and many others, had not been willing to make the sacrifices needed to make those changes.”
Kell said, “This reminds me of taking communion in Church. The whole purpose of taking communion is to remind us of the sacrifice that Jesus made for all humans by letting Himself be crucified on that cross. We should never forget the terrible price that Jesus had to pay to get our sins forgiven!”
In the Bible in I Corinthians 11:23-26 it says:
For I pass on to you what I received from the Lord Himself. On the night when He was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took some bread and gave thanks to God for it. Then He broke it in pieces and said, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same way, He took the cup of wine after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant between God and His people – an agreement confirmed with My blood. Do this in remembrance of Me as often as you drink it.” For every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are announcing the Lord’s death until He comes again.
Communion is a time of remembering what Jesus has done for us, so that our sins can be forgiven, but unless you believe in Jesus, open your heart to Him, and ask Him to come in and forgive you, you will not be forgiven and you will not make it to heaven after this life on earth is done. If you have never given your life to Jesus, please pray today and choose Him!
