There was once a kid’s group at a Church. This group was just a bunch of normal kids, but their leaders had an idea! Why not take a road trip on Route 66 and see some strange things in this country and learn more about God at the same time! It was a great idea, so they packed some clothes and some food and soon they were ready to leave. They needed a vehicle to travel in, so they borrowed an old bus from their Church, and they were ready to go! They named the bus the ‘Ugly Little Blue Bus’.
The first thing they had to do was to find Route 66, so they looked on a map. According to the map, Route 66 begins in downtown Chicago close to Lake Michigan on Adams St. just west of Michigan Ave.
All the kids and leaders got out of the Ugly Little Blue Bus and posed for pictures by sign at the beginning of Route 66. That evening when they were at a campground, their leader talked to the kids about the trip that they were taking. He said, “All trips have to have a beginning point, and you need to start at the right place. If we had not found the beginning of Route 66, we would have been lost before we even got started, and we would have missed all the wonderful things on Route 66. Being a Christian is like taking a trip, we are traveling through this life headed for heaven. To get to the end of the trip, we need to start at the right place. There is only one place to start the trip to heaven, and that is asking Jesus to come into our lives.”
The Bible tells us how to ask Jesus into our life, here are the steps to asking Jesus into your life with some Bible verses that are helpful:
We need to understand that we are all sinners by nature and by choice, no one is good enough to get to heaven!
Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
Because of the sin in our life, we all deserve eternal punishment! But God made a way for us to escape the punishment we deserve and get eternal life, that we do not deserve, with God in Heaven.
Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
The punishment for our sins was paid by Jesus when He chose to die on the cross and rise from the dead to pay for our sins. God did this because He loves us so much!
Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
To get this gift of forgiveness and eternal life, we need to believe in Jesus and truly desire to turn from our old life and follow God’s way.
Romans 10:9-10 “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.”
Romans 10:13 “for ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’”
If you have never given your life to Jesus, why don’t you take time and do it right now? If you cannot think of what to say to God, you could pray this prayer.
Dear God, I know I am a sinner. I know my sin deserves to be punished. I believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God, who died for me and rose from the grave. I want to turn from my sin and trust Jesus Christ alone as my Savior. Thank you for the forgiveness and everlasting life I can now have through faith in Jesus. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
