The menu for the Thanksgiving Feast was almost complete, but they needed dessert. Several of the kids had suggested chocolate pudding for dessert, and that is what they were going to have! Once again, the kids wondered how they were going to make enough pudding for everyone because a box of pudding mix only makes a few small servings.
The Leader held up a very large bowl and told the kids that they were going to make enough chocolate pudding to fill that bowl to the top! The Leader looked at the group of kids and asked, “Who is good at math? We are going to have to figure out how many servings it will take to fill this bowl, and then we will have to figure out how many boxes of pudding mix to buy and how much milk we will need to make all that pudding?”
A couple of the kids were good with math and opened the calculators on their phones and began figuring out how many boxes of pudding they would need to make enough pudding to fill that bowl. The Leader interrupted them and said that they could make their calculations after the teaching time was done. The kids put away their phones and listened to the Leader teach them more about God.
The Leader told the kids that chocolate pudding was a fun food! It is not part of one of the essential food groups, and it is probably not very good for you, but it tastes so good! Chocolate pudding can put a smile on your face and can make life seem good! This reminds us of the words of Jesus.
In the Bible in John 10:10 Jesus says:
“The thief’s (Satan’s) purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.”
The Thanksgiving Feast could have been adequate without having chocolate pudding for dessert. Chocolate pudding is not really needed, but it makes the Feast even more special. In the same way, having Jesus die to pay for our sins, being forgiven, and being promised heaven after this life would have been adequate, and much more than any of us deserve, but Jesus promised believers that they would have a rich and satisfying life on this earth before we die! This is an incredible promise! Jesus does not promise that believers will not have problems in this life, but He did promise that believers will have a satisfying life. So, no matter what a believer is going through at any time, God is always with us! God will never leave us no matter how difficult the circumstances, and God always provides comfort and encouragement. This is truly the only rich and satisfying life available on this earth!
