There was once a young man and a young woman who got married. The man’s name was Kristopher and the woman’s name was Kelley, but they were usually just called Kris and Kell. They had a wonderful wedding and enjoyed the day with their family and friends, but when the day was over, they got sad. They did not have much money, neither of them had a job, and they could not afford to take a trip for their honeymoon. They did not know what to do. They opened their presents, and they had been given some nice things, but they were still sad.
As they were leaving the reception hall Kell’s grandmother met them at the door and said that she had a surprise for them! She wanted them to be able to enjoy a nice long honeymoon, and she had been saving her money for years so that she could buy this for them! She handed them an envelope and said to open it when they got home.
When they got to their house, Kell tore open the envelope and there was a folded piece of paper in it. Kell unfolded the paper and read, “Go downtown to a place called ‘Misadventures…Plus’ they will have all your travel plans for you. I want you to enjoy your trips to the fullest, but please send me a report about each place you visit. I want you to get to know each other better and get to know God better, so tell me something you learned about God at each of your destinations.”
Kris and Kell could not guess what kind of trip that the grandmother had planned for them! They could hardly wait until Monday morning when everything downtown would be open! They wondered what kind of place would be named Misadventures…Plus, it was a mystery!
Early Monday morning Kris and Kell went downtown and found the building with the sign over the door that said, ‘Misadventures…Plus’, they opened the door and went in. The Travel Agent came up to them and said, “You must be Kris and Kell, I have been waiting for you! Your grandmother has planned a very special trip for you! You are going to visit every one of the United States of America and have an unusual adventure in each state!”
Kris asked, “How long will we be gone? And how will we pay for things like food?” The Travel Agent answered, “Kell’s grandmother has arranged for everything, you do not need to take any money with you! You will get back when you have finished the trip! When you have finished each adventure, you will be given an envelope with plane tickets to the next adventure and the money that you will need for that adventure, including money for food. Do not forget to send your grandmother the report about each adventure and let her know what you learned about God on that adventure!”
Kell asked, “Why is this place called ‘Misadventures…Plus’? What is a misadventure? Why is the word ‘Plus’ added to the name?”
The Travel Agent said, “We call our business ‘Misadventures…Plus’ because most adventures do not turn out the way that we expect them to turn out. Usually if something can go wrong, it will go wrong! The ‘Plus’ is added to the name because occasionally an adventure will go completely right, and you will have the best time ever! Either way, whether you have the greatest adventure or things go wrong, you will learn a lot about God while you are on this trip!”
The Travel Agent handed Kell the first envelope and told them that they would leave on the first adventure tomorrow morning, an Uber would pick them up and take them to the airport.
Lesson Learned about God:
The grandmother had a great trip planned for Kris and Kell, but they do not know the details and do not know what adventures they will have before the trip is done! In the same way, God has a plan for each person that follows Him. We do not know the details of the plan, and we do not know the adventures we will have before this life is over. We do know that God’s has good plans for those who love Him and have given their life to Him.
In the Bible in Jeremiah 29:11 God says:
“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”
In the Bible in Romans 8:18 it says:
And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them.
