That man and his Brachiosaurus were ready to go back to work. So while the other people were still trying to figure which Brachiosaurus belonged to them, this man and his Brachiosaurus picked the best rock and began to drag it out of the canyon. Flash and Spark Plug decided to follow them and see what the people were building with all these big blocks of rock. When they got to the top of the canyon, they could not believe their eyes…
There was a huge building! It was much taller than any building in the city where Flash and Spark Plug lived! Many men and women were working on that huge building. There were using the Brachiosaurus to drag the huge block of stone up ramps that lead to the top of the building. Once the blocks of stone were up there, the people were using smaller dinosaurs to drag the blocks of stone into place to make the wall of the building even higher. The people were very exciting and they were talking joyfully to each other in their language and singing songs. It was very impressive!
Suddenly it happened! Another dark storm came racing down from the mountains! This storm was filled with thunder and lightning and there was hail and pouring rain! A strong wind came with the storm and it knocked people over and it blew some of the huge blocks of stone off the building along with many of the people who were working on the building! There was screaming and confusion. People were running away from the building so that they would not get crushed by falling stones, people that were hurt were crying for help and the dinosaurs stampeded away from there!
When the storm was over, there was a few minutes of quiet while everyone looked around at the ruin of their magnificent building, then everyone started talking at once! A look of complete surprise appeared on every face, they could not understand each other, they were all talking different languages. People started running around looking for someone who talked the same language that they did.
Spark Plug said to Flash, “I know what’s going on, that big building is the Tower of Babel. We learned about this in Sunday School. The story of this tower is in the Bible! All these people thought that they could build a tower so high that it would reach up to heaven, then they thought they would be as great as God! God confused their languages to show them how foolish they were to think that they could ever be equal with God!”
Just then a young woman ran up to Flash and screamed, “Help me, help me!” She was speaking in English! Flash tried to calm down the young woman and explain to her what was going on. The young woman did not want to listen, she kept looking for someone she knew that spoke her language. Soon she saw a person she knew that was speaking English and she ran after that person.
All around the tower people were finding others who spoke the same language and when they found those people, they formed small groups and went off by themselves. Soon Flash and Spark Plug were by themselves at the Tower of Babel. They used the tablet and took pictures of each other with the great tower in the background.
They walked back to the canyon where they had hidden the lawnmower and talked about all the adventures that they had had. They both were starting to get very homesick and they agreed to leave this place and maybe, just maybe they would get home some time. So they started the lawnmower, aimed it at a clump of trees and pushed the throttle all the way open! Smoke began pouring out of the lawn mower’s motor, the lawn mower began to shake like a marshmallow roasting on an open fire, Flash began to scream, and the turbo charger began to make a noise like an ostrich singing in the rain. What can we learn from this story:
This story is about pride. Pride is a very bad thing. People start believing in their own greatness, and soon they believe they are greater than other people and even greater than God Himself. Pride causes people to start believing that they are smarter than God, and they begin to ignore the teaching of God’s Word (the Bible).
In the Bible in the book of Romans chapter 1 verse 25 it talks about this:
They traded the truth about God for a lie. So they worshiped and served the things God created instead of the Creator Himself, who is worthy of eternal praise! Amen.”
Pride is one of the biggest temptations faced by humans. It started with Adam and Eve thinking that they could be as smart as God, the people at the Tower of Babel thought they could be as great as God, and many people today think that God doesn’t exist and that humans are god and can make up their own rules for living!
God will not tolerate this pride; He is against those who are prideful and think that they are better than God or smarter than God!
In the Bible in the book of James chapter 4 verse 6 it says:
And He gives grace generously. As the Scriptures say, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.
When God opposes the proud, He does not do it because He is mean. God opposes the proud so that they can see how wrong they are and turn to God and ask for forgiveness. When a person confesses their sin of pride to God and asks for forgiveness then they begin to become a humble person. God is delighted with humble people!
In the book of James chapter 4 verse 10 it says:
Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up in honor.
All of us struggle with pride at times, and you do to! When you find that you are becoming proud, go to Jesus in prayer right away and confess the pride and ask for forgiveness. You can do this anywhere and at any time!
