MJ was looking at the dial on the time machine, and he was confused. He said, “The next name on the dial is Rahab, and I thought she was a bad person. How could she be an ancestor of Jesus?” The Professor answered, “She was a very sinful person, but she changed. Let’s start the time machine and bring her here so that we can hear her story!” MJ turned the dial to Rahab, and Precious pushed the button. Nothing happened for about 30 seconds, then the booth began to shake like a mosquito who had too much caffeine, there was the sound of thunder, and the air was filled with a long bright red rope that whipped through the air like a live thing! The Professor, MJ and Precious all got tangled in the rope and fell to the ground! The Professor said, “Ooops!”
A woman came out of the booth. She was young and very pretty. She looked at the Professor, MJ, and Precious laying on the floor all tangled in the bright red rope and said, “I’m sorry, but I never travel anywhere without my scarlet rope!” The Professor and MJ were embarrassed that such a pretty woman saw them all tangled up, and Precious was a little jealous of Rahab’s beauty. At last, they all got untangled and MJ coiled up the rope and handed it back to Rahab.
They all sat down and asked Rahab to tell them her story. Rahab told them that she had been a very sinful person. Everyone sins, but Rahab actively went out and sinned more and more. In fact, she earned money by sinning! She lived in the city of Jericho, and it seemed like everyone in Jericho knew about Rahab and her sinful lifestyle. Her house was on the wall of the city. These walls were very tall and strong so that the city was safe from enemies, but the people of Jericho were scared!
The reason the people were scared was because they had heard of the nation of Israel who had escaped from Egypt and were headed toward their city. God was helping the nation of Israel, and they destroyed all their enemies with God’s help. Now the nation of Israel was camped just across the river from the city of Jericho. Two men from Israel came across the river to spy on Jericho. They found Rahab’s house because it was on the wall of the city, and they visited her.
Rahab told them that the whole city was scared because God was helping the nation of Israel. Rahab knew that her city was going to be destroyed by Israel. Just then there was pounding on the door of the house! Soldiers had come from the king of Jericho looking for the two spies! Rahab quickly took the spies up to the roof of the house and hid them under some bundles of grain that were stored there. Then Rahab went to the door and talked with the soldiers. Rahab lied to the soldiers and told them that the spies had left and gone toward the river. She told the soldiers to hurry and chase the spies, and maybe they could catch them! The soldiers left to chase the spies.
The spies were safe, but they were trapped in the city. They could not leave during the daytime because people would see them, and they could not leave at night because the gate of the city would be closed! Rahab had a plan! When it got dark, she would let them out of the window of her house! Because her house was on the city wall this would be a great way to escape. Rahab had a scarlet rope that was long enough to reach from her window to the ground outside the city.
Before the spies left Rahab, she asked them to promise that she and her family would not be killed when the nation of Israel destroyed Jericho. The men promised that if Rahab left the scarlet rope hanging from her window, her house would not be destroyed, and everyone in her house would be safe!
The spies went down the scarlet rope and escaped, and Rahab left the rope hanging from her window. A few days later the nation of Israel crossed the river and approached the city. All the soldiers were on top of the wall ready for a great battle, but the nation of Israel did not attack, all they did was march around the city and then go back to their camp. The nation of Israel did the same thing for six days in a row. The soldiers made fun of the people of Israel because it looked like they were afraid to fight! On the seventh day the nation of Israel marched around Jericho seven times and then they shouted and blew trumpets! God made those strong walls around Jericho fall down, and the soldiers on the wall were killed. The whole wall was flat on the ground except for the spot where Rahab’s house was. The two spies came to Rahab’s house and took her and her family to safety. The rest of Jericho was destroyed!
Rahab went to live with the people of Israel and while she was there, they taught her about God! Rahab believed in God and wanted to live for Him. Eventually Rahab got married and had a family, and she became an ancestor of Jesus!
The Professor told MJ and Precious that God can save even the worst of sinners! When Jesus gave his life on the cross, He paid the price for all the sins of the whole world! No one is too great a sinner, everyone can be forgiven if they believe in Jesus and give their life to Him.
In the Bible in John 1:12 it says:
But to all who believed Him (Jesus) and accepted Him, He gave the right to become children of God.
In the Bible in II Corinthians 5:17 it says:
This means that anyone who belongs to Christ (Jesus) has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!
Rahab had found God, and she became a new person! Even though she had been very sinful, she had found forgiveness and a new life!
If you have never believed in Jesus and given your life to Him, please do it today! It will be the best decision that you will ever make!
It was time for Rahab to go back to her time, so she carefully gathered up her scarlet rope and when into the booth. The Professor closed the door, and Precious pushed the button. Nothing happened for about 30 seconds, then the booth began to shake like a mosquito who had too much caffeine, there was the sound of thunder, and Rahab was gone!
